FAQ · Honda Africa Twin 1100

The TFT displays “The connected device is not supported.” when I connect the dongle. What should I do?

If this message appears while setting up your 3DMP dongle, start by checking the software version installed on your motorcycle’s TFT display.

Do you own a 2020 or 2021 Africa Twin 1100? Android Auto was introduced through Honda’s software update 3.10, released in February 2021. If your TFT still runs an earlier version, the lack of Android Auto support may explain the connection problem when using Android Auto. [1–3]

This message alone does not confirm a faulty dongle or identify a single cause .

Which model years are affected?

Model year What to check
2020 The original TFT already supported Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto. The 2021 software update added Android Auto support.
2021 Honda includes this model year in the 3.10 update. Check the installed software: the model year alone does not guarantee that the update has been completed.
2022 Honda’s documentation already lists Android Auto for both the Africa Twin and Adventure Sports. You do not need to install the old 3.10 update simply because this message appears.
Later models Check the documentation and software applicable to your model year and market. Do not automatically use the update package intended for 2020/2021 models.

Model year may differ from the year of first registration. Honda sources: [1–5].

1. Check your TFT software version

With the motorcycle stationary, look for the following menu options:

Setting → Service → System information → Software Version

Menu labels may vary depending on the display language.

On the affected models, a version earlier than 3.10 is a reason to check update availability with Honda. If you already have 3.10 or a compatible later version, proceed with the connection checks below.

3.10 is the version that introduced Android Auto in this historical update package; it is not a statement that 3.10 is the latest software. Do not downgrade your TFT to resolve this message.

2. Check Honda’s official update page

The page below belongs to Honda Powersports in the United States and is hosted on the official honda.com domain. Honda published instructions allowing owners to download the software and install it using a USB flash drive. [1, 3]

If your motorcycle is from European market, confirm with a Honda dealer that the file is suitable for your specific motorcycle before installing it. An official US download does not, by itself, confirm that the same file applies to every regional version.

  1. Read Honda’s instructions and confirm compatibility with your motorcycle.
  2. Prepare the USB flash drive and copy the update file according to the guide for your computer.
  3. Follow Honda’s power supply requirements and do not switch off the ignition during the update .
  4. Once the update is complete, check the TFT software version and set up the dongle again.

This overview does not replace Honda’s full installation procedure. You can also ask a Honda dealer to carry out the update.

More frequently asked questions

Is this an update for the dongle or the motorcycle?

This update is for the motorcycle’s TFT software. Updating the dongle alone cannot add Android Auto support to Honda’s original system.

I use an iPhone and Apple CarPlay. Does the same explanation apply?

Not necessarily. Apple CarPlay was already available on the 2020 TFT; the introduction of Android Auto is a separate matter. If the error appears while setting up CarPlay, do not assume that missing software version 3.10 is the cause. Check your CarPlay setup and the dongle’s instructions.

I already have version 3.10 or later, but the error remains. What next?

Check the USB connections, reconnect the dongle and make sure you are following the instructions for your intended mode. As a diagnostic test, connect a compatible phone directly to the motorcycle using a USB data cable and follow Honda’s setup requirements, including a Bluetooth headset when requested.

If the wired connection also fails, there is an issue to investigate before using a wireless connection. If the wired connection works but the dongle does not, send the information below to 3DMP support so we can check your setup.
