It's not really a problem with 3DMP. The product is well built and fits perfectly into the motorcycle's USB port. The real issue is that Honda has tied the Android Auto connection to an additional Bluetooth connection with an intercom paired directly to the bike's control unit. Without that connection—or whenever the system cannot detect the intercom—the control unit keeps asking to reconnect it before allowing Android Auto to start, making it extremely difficult to keep even the basic information displayed on the main screen.
Another important issue is that if you receive an incoming call while the map is displayed, you completely lose access to the navigation screen, which only reappears after the call has ended.
In short, the product itself is good, but Honda's system, overall, does not allow Android Auto to be used without running into potentially dangerous situations. You often have to stop the motorcycle in the middle of the road just to return to the desired screen using the touchscreen, which is only available when the motorcycle is stationary.
For this overall result, I would not recommend spending the money.
Thank you for your feedback. We understand that the intercom requirement can be inconvenient. However, unlike cars, which have built-in speakers and microphones, the Honda system needs a paired intercom to provide the audio and voice functions required by Android Auto.
This is a Honda system requirement and is not caused by the 3DMP dongle. Its purpose is also to encourage safer riding by allowing the rider to use voice commands rather than interacting with the touchscreen while the motorcycle is moving.
The behaviour described regarding calls and screen access is likewise controlled by Honda’s Android Auto interface. The 3DMP dongle only provides the wireless connection and cannot change the motorcycle’s original operating or safety restrictions.
A great piece of kit. So easy to install(15 minutes) and completely enhances the display on my bike. Great service from time of ordering until delivery. So good I recommended it to a friend and he’s now got one on his bike.
